Have you ever noticed on Google, when you're searching for something like web design, web development, or other services such as 3D laser scanning technologies for buildings and facades, that the top 3–4 results often have a special label that says “Ad”? This is how Google Ads works. It’s a special tool that was created by this digital giant to promote your website by investing money into online ads.

Today, we'll discuss how it works, the benefits it can bring, and much more!

We live in the era where everything is online. Conversions from clicks and visits to our websites are important, as they form the basis for how search engines will promote us, ultimately leading to even more conversions. Your website is the whole organism that works in tandem with browsers.

The useful tips, insights, and pieces of advice we've gathered here are meant to enhance your experience! Let's do it together! 💪

How does Google Ads work?

Google Ads operates on a pay-per-click (PPC) model, where advertisers bid on keywords relevant to their target audience. When users search for these keywords in Chrome, ads related to those keywords may appear at the top or bottom of the search results page, marked with a small “Ad” label. Advertisers pay Google only when users click on their ads. That's why it’s good, and it doesn’t work like on Facebook where we pay even when we see ads. Additionally, this tool offers various targeting options, ad formats, and bidding strategies to help advertisers reach their desired audience and achieve their marketing goals.

How to set up the price for my Google Ads?

Many people think that Google Ads is expensive, they think that it’s better to try SEO optimization, promote their websites on social media and collaborate with other people to be mentioned as a quote or ask for a paragraph of your expert opinion in articles. All these methods are good! It’s more about some alternatives and an easy way to be noticed if you have a budget because the tool we are discussing today is not for everyone, meaning that some people won’t be able to see any effectiveness from this process after paying thousands of dollars.

Google Ads suggests making some minimal investments into this platform to achieve minimal effectiveness from your ads, and we have some examples here 👇

  • For small and local businesses, they recommend allocating between $1,500 to $8,000 per month.
  • Mid-size businesses typically find success with ad budgets ranging from $7,000 to $30,000 per month.
  • For larger enterprises, we suggest investing between $20,000 to $50,000 per month in ad spend.

Is it so true with reality? Of course not!

*CPC – Cost per Click

In the world of online advertising, advertisers want to make sure they're getting enough clicks each day to reel in some leads or customers. This number could vary, from just a handful to dozens, depending on what industry they're in.

But here's the kicker☝️: while the average CPC is around $3 in the USA, in some fields, like law, it can shoot up to a whopping $150 per click! That's quite the investment for those looking to make an impact in the legal services sector.

With a 10% conversion rate which is the minimum that you should plan for your ads, meaning that out of every 100 people who interact with your ad or visit your website, 10 of them take the desired action, whether that's making a purchase, signing up for a service, or providing their contact information.

If CPC is $3, the daily budget is $30, or $912 per month.

If CPC is $25, the daily budget is $250, or $7,600 per month.

If CPC is $150, the daily budget is $1,500, or $45,600 per month.

Exactly! Paying for clicks on your ads doesn't guarantee that those clicks will result in a purchase or desired action. Yes, it's easy to calculate now. If the conversion rate is 1%.

Google wants you to invest more and more in the promotion! It doesn’t work well for everyone.

Why is Google Ads not good for small businesses anymore?

Google is constantly changing its algorithms. Today, the platform sets up your CPC automatically, meaning the IT-giant has deprived marketers of control over their ads.

The CPC is now determined by an algorithm. As a result, small advertisers are forced to compete with large-budget brands automatically included in the auction results. In this situation, the bids of small businesses cannot be relevant to the outcome of the bidding.

When I should not think about Google Ads

  • • Brand new businesses
  • If your business is brand new and hasn't yet established a strong online presence or website, investing in Google Ads may not be the most effective use of your resources until you have a solid foundation in place. Here, we recommend trying some alternatives first, such as: Social media, or email marketing, have proven to be more effective for your startup. It might be wiser to allocate your resources there instead of investing in this platform. Many people mistakenly believe that investing in Google Ads will instantly propel their business to success, covering all expenses with a high conversion rate one day. I wish it would be so easygoing  🙏.
Here, it would be appropriate to say “Money rules the world, not people”. – Have you read the previous section about expenses? ‍
  • • Non-searchable products or services
  • If what you offer is highly specialized or unique, and there's low search volume for related keywords, Google Ads may not generate enough traffic to justify the investment. It is also a mistake to think that you can generate traffic just by investing money. Unfortunately, money doesn’t rule the world in this case, and you will only be sponsoring Chrome😄.
☝️ This case can be related to the issue that your target audience is highly localized, and there's minimal search volume for relevant keywords in your area.
  • • Should we ironically mention paragraphs about limited budgets and low-profit margins?
  • We think that individuals with an IQ higher than their bank balance will understand the expression – “No money, no honey” 😂.

How do I connect my Webflow or any other website to Google Ads?

Then 👇

  1. Create an account 👉 Google Ads
  2. Create your Ads campaign: choose the campaign type, set your targeting preferences, create your ads, and set your budget.
    BUT don’t launch your campaign👇
Google Ads Conversion Tracking is made to track conversions from your Webflow website, and you'll need to install it.

  3. Add the conversion tracking code to your Webflow website.
Go to Webflow 👉 Project settings, under the “Custom code” section, paste the conversion tracking code in the “Head code” section.

About content for your ads

They offer you the opportunity to publish your ads on YouTube, Gmail, the Google browser, and Discover.

Let’s start with YouTube 🎥.

Have you ever seen video ads there? This is one of the best ways to promote because visual content always attracts attention. YouTube allows you at least 10 seconds before users can skip your ad, making these 10 seconds crucial for capturing someone’s attention. To upload your video, scroll down to the “Video” section and click to upload your content.

Don’t forget about images as well for other Google services!

The algorithms will scan your webpage and suggest logos and images based on the results, but it would be better to prepare all your content in advance.

You need to prepare only 4 files and let’s divide them into 2 main groups

Banner ロ Logo 〇

The banner picture will be shown in Gmail in the opened format (closed format includes only logo and text) and on the Google Display Network.

Closed and opened formats are available only in Gmail, with the closed format appearing among your mail lines as an unread message or an ad. Everyone imagines it differently 🙂.

This will be visible everywhere. It’s crucial because your logo will appear in either a circle or rectangle, depending on the screen.

2 banner and 2 logos

For the desktop version and an aspect ratio of 1.91:1.

Here are the recommended and minimal sizes:

  • Recommended size: 1200 x 628
  • Minimal size: 600 x 314

For mobile/screens with a square aspect ratio of 1:1.

Here are the recommended and minimal sizes:

  • Recommended size: 1200 x 1200
  • Minimal size: 300 x 300

For the logo, you have two different ratios:

Horizontal (4:1 ratio):

  • Recommended size: 1200 x 300
  • Minimal size: 512 x 128

Square (1:1 ratio):

  • Recommended size: 1200 x 1200
  • Minimal size: 128 x 128

We suggest uploading everything, as it enhances your ad experience and ensures proper display across various screens.

Similarly, for the video, strive to make it captivating. Trust us, every other person attempts to skip it, but occasionally, we encounter truly intriguing videos.

Final thoughts

Before launching your Ads campaign, take the time to carefully consider your objectives and expectations.

Make a plan! It's important to note that this tool can be quite costly, with expenses increasing over time. Additionally, if you're not adept at content creation, you may need to allocate resources for someone to set up your ads. It can include additional expenses 🤒.

While this article provides insights to help you weigh the pros and cons, the ultimate decision rests with you. Keep in mind that there are alternative methods to promote your website, such as investing in SEO and social media. Prioritizing SEO efforts can potentially save you money while optimizing your content.

Consider Google Ads as a final digital resort, to be utilized only after exhausting other options and realizing that your desired outcomes haven't been met.
